Most consumers of dairy products accept that pasteurization provides a guarantee that products are safe to eat and drink. However, research [1] using a new highly sensitive technology has revealed that live mycobacteria can exist in retail milk even after pasteurization and explains how this may happen. Live Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis (MAP) - which causes Johne’s disease in cattle and has been implicated in Crohn’s disease in humans - was found in just over 10% of shop-bought pasteurized milk samples that were tested in the UK. The prevalence of MAP is higher than previous studies have shown due to the high sensitivity of the new phage-based technology that was used to conduct the milk testing. In the study of 386 samples of retail-purchased milk, Actiphage was able to detect live mycobacteria at levels as low as 1-2 cells per 50ml in comparison to other tests that cannot detect cell-counts lower than 100 cells. There is a growing body of research that implicates MAP in the development of Crohn’s disease [2], with MAP found in the bowel tissue of a proportion of patients with the condition. Although no causal relationship between MAP and Crohn’s has been directly established the dairy industry recognizes that limiting human exposure to MAP would be sensible on a precautionary principle [3]. Furthermore, there are clinical trials underway with anti-mycobacterial drugs that are directly assessing the benefit in Crohn’s disease. Some retailers are already removing dairy farmers from their milk pool if they are not engaged with Johne’s control plans. 
The Actiphage assay, developed by PBD Biotech, uses a virus (phage) that finds, infects and replicates in viable mycobacteria cells. Within hours the virus breaks open the mycobacteria cells, releasing DNA determining whether live organisms were present in the sample. Previous quality control procedures to monitor the levels of MAP in pasteurized milk have been difficult as these mycobacteria are extremely slow growing. Culturing these bacteria takes up to 18 weeks to determine if any MAP cells have survived a food safety or control process and the sensitivity of the procedure is low. The new phage-based detection method, which was used within the research published in the Elsevier journal of Food Microbiology (September 2018) [1], allowed experiments to be performed quickly (6-8 hours); providing the insight dairy producers and processors need to further improve control measures. The test’s underlying biotechnology was originally used for the detection of human TB-under the FastPlaque brand - but was only suitable for use on sputum. Now the highly specific phage-based diagnostic has been optimized, so it can detect the presence of mycobacteria in blood or milk in just six hours. Contrary to previous hypotheses, this research also suggests that MAP does not enter the milk solely due to faecal contamination, but via somatic cells within the udder. This intracellular location and the fact that these cells appear to clump may help explain how the mycobacteria are protected against heat inactivation during pasteurization and could lead to new processing methods to ensure the mycobacteria are inactivated. Earlier published work in 2016 [4] using the same technology also demonstrated the presence of live MAP in infant formula milk further increasing the value of this technology as a screening tool.

Occurance of Mycotoxins and Mycotoxicosis in Poultry by Nikola Puvača in CDVS in Lupine Publishers

Antibiotics have been used as antimicrobial growth promoters in animal to improve food safety. However, in order to avoid the possible risk of developing resistant pathogens, as well as to meet the public pressure of antibiotic free animal products, the use of antibiotic in poultry diet was totally banned in European Community [1]. Various alternatives of phyto additives have been studied in order to maximize the growth performance of laying hens in the diets without antibiotics. Compared with synthetic antibiotics or inorganic chemicals, these plant derived products have proved to be less toxic, residue free and are thought to be ideal feed additives in food animal production [1]. Egg yolk colour is very important feature, which determines the acceptability of the product and depends on the presence and profile of carotenoids in feed. Laying hens have no ability to synthesise pigments by their own biochemical processes; thus the colour of egg yolk depends on the presence and utilisation of pigments present in the feed. In order to achieve appropriate colour of the yolks, hens diets should be supplemented with yellow or red pigments, natural or synthetic. Food producers pay much more attention towards colours of natural origin, since many synthetic pigments have been shown to impart negative health effects.

The Development Fortified Pan Bread by Increasing Its Protein Content with High Levels of Live Yeast cells Saccharomyces Cerevisiae by Nader R Abdelsalam in CDVS in Lupine Publishers

The main objective of the study was to develop high protein content bread through fortification with nutritional yeast. Fortified bread boosts the nutritional status of poor people and reduces the incidence of protein energy deficiency diseases. The bread was reformulated by adding various concentrations of nutritional yeast in the range 5, 10, 15, 20 and 30g/kg wheat flour. The bread was baked using the straight dough method. Protein, carbohydrate, moisture, fat, vitamin B complex, minerals, energy value and amino acids content of the fortified bread were evaluated. Sensory evaluation was conducted on bread samples to evaluate the bread acceptance levels. The results of the study revealed that the carbohydrate, moisture, vitamin B complex, minerals and protein content increased with an increase in concentration of nutritional yeast. Addition of nutritional yeast increased the essential amino acids and non-essential amino acids. The test panels accepted bread fortified with (5-20g/kg) nutritional yeast but bread with higher amounts of nutritional yeast (30g/kg) was generally unacceptable. This study shows the potential of using nutritional yeast in improving protein quality of bread consumed by economically disadvantaged communities.

All around the world, sheeps and goats play an important role in small scale farming systems. Goat farming is very beneficial from economic point of view. It provides many products but meat and milk are the major products. Goat meat has low level of calorie, fat and cholesterol so it is a healthy substitute to beef and lamb. Moreover goats also use extensively to provide milk for human consumption. It is easier to digest than cow’s milk because it has smaller fat globules than cow’s milk. In order to support metabolic process all living organisms require essential nutrients, to keep themselves alive so variations in animal diets may improve both the quantity and quality of the final products. In recent years, yeasts are gaining popularity in fattening system as a probiotics.
Since yeast is robust with high viability under a range of environmental conditions and can be culture very easily so yeast cultures are more commonly used as a feed supplements in livestock feeding systems. These cultures have positive impact on microbial population in gastrointestinal tract and they increase the beneficial activities associated with these microorganisms that has indirect impact on animal performance. Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Aspergillusoryza are the most important yeast products and they are very significant for the manipulation of rumen metabolism.
It is stated by most of the researchers that yeast culture supplementation has positive impact on carcass characteristics, nutrient digestibility, feed intake and the growth performance of the goats in cost effective way but on the other hand some of the scientists do not support that results and they concluded that yeast supplementation in the diet of goats and other ruminants do not have any significant influences on animal performance, carcass characteristics and other features. Step by step, this paper will make the detail evaluation of the use of dietary yeast and its product in the feeding regime of meat type goats, impact of yeast on goat physiognomic features such as growth performance, feed efficiency, digestibility and meat quality.

This research correlates the effect of climatic factors on bluetongue epidemiology in sheep of delta districts in Tamilnadu based on merteriological data collected from 2014 to 2016. There are a total of eighty two villages of delta districts were affected with Blue tongue virus (BTV). We used multiple linear regression analysis to assess the effect of climatic factors on the prevalence of bluetongue. Our results showed that maximum temperature, rain fall and relative humidity positively correlates with the number of BTV epidemic in sheep flocks. These findings suggest that the risk of BTV infections in sheep increased in warm and humid environments. Moreover, climatic factors can be used to forecast the possible epidemic in this area and other regions characterized by similar climatic conditions.
